Bundi

Bundi is a blue city in eastern Rajasthan. It's a special destination on its own. An oasis in the desert state , a serene civilization far from the maddening crowd & a tourists' destination . Attracted Sir Rudyard Kipling, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Virginia Fass, film maker Satyajit Ray .. and many more. Thousands of tourists, both domestic and foreign, come here to see and discover this beautiful place. Bundi was named after a Meena Chieftain Bunda. Bundi is especially famous for the miniature paintings from the "Bundi School" and the aesthetic stepwells.

Bundi is the undiscovered splendour, 36 Kms from Kota ruled by the Hada Chauhans. First destination is HADOTI. Set in a narrow inclining gorge. The palaces and forts have fairy tale quality about them. Isolated and independent, this picturesque location has much to offer. Rajput architecture shines and in the intricately carved brackets, pillars etc. Interesting places are Diwan-e- aam, Hati Pol, and Naubat Khana.

The small sleepy town of Bundi, a rather unexplored city with rich historical wealth, is surrounded by the Aravali hills on three sides and is circumscribed by a massive wall with four gateways. Impressive medieval forts, palaces and temples with beautiful stone idols and chhatris(Cenotaphs) with carved pillars along with a scenic lake in the heart of the town that add to its charm

Bundi was a strategically important place since it was surrounded by the Aravalli hills on three sides and could be entered through four huge gateways set in a massive wall that surrounds the town. Taragarh fort is one of the places to see here, and like almost every Rajasthani town, Bundi also (believe it or not) has a lake. Rajput heritage continues in Bundi, famous even today for paintings depicting royal hunts, murals on the walls of the palace and its lacquer work on toys and ornaments. In fact, the Chitrashala or Hall of Paintings has one of the best examples seen in Rajasthan.
