Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar is known for its architecture and ancient temples. The 10th century Lingaraja temple, dedicated to Shiva, has been described as "the truest fusion of dream and reality." The surface of the 55 meter high Lingaraja temple is covered with carvings. Sculpture and architecture fused elegantly to create a perfect harmony.

This city is most renowned for changing the conqueror to the conquered. The great Kalinga War took place here between Emperor Asoka and Kalinga. Asoka was overwhelmed at the gory of blood that flowed like a river. Asokan inscriptions still stand testimony for this. The twin cave groups of Kandagiri and Udayagiri are evidence of the region's antiquity, dating to the 2nd century BC or the early Jain monastery.

Best Indian travel takes you deep into Bhunbaneswar's legendary skyline dominated by some of the most artistic and engineering feats in the field of architecture. Travel to Bhubaneswar becomes all the necessary as it is one of the three destinations of the Golden Triangle itinerary, others being Puri and Konark.

The temples of Bhubaneswar bears lavish testimony to its rich history and cultural heritage of centuries. Most important among them are the Lingaraj, the Mukteswar, the Parsurameswar and the Rajarani temples. The most mature state of Indian architecture is reflected in the Lingaraj Temple dominating the landscape of the city. The Parsurameswar temple, built in 650 AD, is one of the few oldest surviving temples in Bhubaneswar. The architectural splendors of these structures make the tour to Bhubaneswar an unforgettable experience.
