Alwar is a city in the Rajasthan state of western India. It was formerly the capital of the princely state of Alwar or Ulwar in British India. The city is located around 160 km south of Delhi, and around 150 km north of Jaipur.

Alwar is a city of much historical significance in Rajasthan. It lies between the small hills located in the Aravali ranges and is situated on the north-eastern part of Rajasthan. You can travel to Alwar easily from anywhere in Rajasthan and also nearby places like Delhi and Haryana. The place has many interesting tourist attractions and it still hasn't lost its old world charm. The city still basks in its rich historical past and is fiercely proud of it. Many gruesome battles have been fought in Alwar in the past.

Alwar is popularly known as the Tiger Gate of Rajasthan and a very popular travel destination of India. Alwar is one of the important city of Rajasthan that depicts its cultural heritage. Formerly known as Mewar, Alwar was a predominantly a Rajput Kingdom of India that came under Muslim domination during 13th -18th century. Maharaja Pratap Singh, a Kuchhwaha Rajput , in 1771 A.D. belonging to the clan of Jaipur's rulers, won back Alwar and founded a principality of his own. Travel to Alwar to explore the heritages and historical monuments built by the past rulers. Alwar is one place that is easily accessible, as it is 150 km from Jaipur and 170 km from Delhi.
