Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of the largest cities in Spain, and is the largest city in the Canary Islands. Las Palmas is definitely worth taking a day or two out of your holiday to visit, even if you don’t speak a word of Spanish. The City is teeming with life both day and night. During the day you can visit the Spanish Colonial Museum . Visit the numerous department stores such as El Corte Ingles, or just idle the day away on las Canteras beach.

There are numerous Tapas bars where you can eat and mix with the locals and experience true Canarian cuisine. Also it is worth noting that as it is not dominated by tourists prices of food and drink are up to 50% less than in the South of the Island.

You can have a set 3 course lunch in a quality restaurant with wine and coffee for 7 Euros a head. Try doing that in Playa del Ingles.

At night there are numerous bars, restaurants and night clubs to choose from. A must see is Plaza Santa Catalina where you can idle away the evening in one of the open air restaurants.

As a beach town, Las Palmas is especially popular for oceanside activities. Catch a wave, grab your snorkel, or just soak up some sun. Or if you feel like exploring terra firma, do as the locals do and make use of the public tourism bus, known affectionately as the guiriguagua.
